Case Study 1: Harry Kennedy for Missouri State Senate

  Context:
Harry Kennedy’s open-seat election served as the only Democratic victory for the Missouri Senate Democrats. The Republican redistricting plan carved Senator Kennedy out of his St. Louis City district and formed him into the County where he faced the spouse of the current State Senator.

Our Work:
We introduced Harry Kennedy to a whole new voting population while also making voters aware that our opponent was not the incumbent they had voted for before. By introducing Harry as someone who came from humble roots and remained today in the same neighborhood he grew up in, we were able to connect him to this mostly middle-class community. We also discussed our opponent’s lack of fiscal control during his brief foray into public life, which was marked by financial scandals and questionable judgment.

Results:
Serving as the only means of mass communications, our mail helped Harry become Missouri’s only Democratic State Senate victory, overcoming an almost 10-point deficit at the top of the ticket.
